Trial and Retribution is a crime drama from Lynda La Plante which breaks entirely fresh ground in both style and content. The programme traces the entire trajectory - in human and legal terms - of a serious crime. The story begins as a crime is committed. The police investigation proceeds to an arrest and then on into the law courts where the defendant is tried by a judge and jury. The viewers hear the final verdict - but it is for them to determine whether justice has been done. Trial and Retribution probes the human implications of an horrific crime, the impact on the victim’s family, the motivation of the suspect and the emotional damage to the officers involved.
