In response to a burst of creative energy, Joni Mitchell has had a
very busy year. It started with her being co-creator and artistic
director for a ballet based on her music, followed by a politically
charged visual art exhibition due to commence in New York this
month. Amongst all of this she found time and inspiration for an
album of beautiful melodies, with occasionally dark lyrics that
express her theological and social awareness of a need to protect
this beloved planet. Fans will be pleased to hear a new treatment
of her 70s anthem Big Yellow Taxi and an exquisite
adaptation of the Rudyard Kipling Poem ‘If ’, believed to be a
lifetime favourite of hers. At times musically sparse, her familiar
improvisational jazz styling is always dusted with her brooding
voice.
