Shepherds' Dog
Staff Review
I must admit to being a bit scared when I read that Sam Beam was
inspired by Tom Waits’ record Swordfish Trombone when making
this album. I like Iron & Wine just the way they are thanks!
But now upon hearing it I understand what he was getting at. The
percussion is definitely more of a feature on this album, but it is
restrained and back in the mix - not something you’d expect of Tom
Waits but certainly something that draws me to Iron & Wine in
the first place. Soft, whispery vocals perfectly compliment his
beautiful songs. So, it may be slightly different to the first two
albums but please, trust me, it is a fine album.
