Abattoir Blues/The Lyre Of Orpheus

The ever-prolific Nick Cave has churned out his annual release, this time an epic two disc affair. Seemingly with ease, Cave has shifted up a gear and reportedly recorded up to ten albums’ worth of material in the Parisian spring. Abattoir Blues is a rollicking affair, lots of guitars, opening track Get Ready for Love is as close to Nick Cave gospel as you’re ever going to get. Nature Boy, the first single, is probably as pop as Nick Cave is ever going to be. The second disc, The Lyre of Orpheus has a simpler, gentle touch, rounding out this latest mammoth effort perfectly. Fresh, loose and interesting, the Bad Seeds post Blixa Bargeld have done a fantastic job. Nick, you’ve found your way again and reclaimed a fan.
