Never change a winning team! Giuliano Carmignola and Andrea Marcon’s Venice Baroque Orchestra discover an almost forgotten repertoire of the Italian violin concerto, bridging the gap between Baroque and Classical styles in the mid 18th century. In this period Italian violin virtuosos were becoming known all over Europe, giving concerts to great acclaim and starting to establish a new type of travelling virtuoso and composer that would achieve mythical status in the following century.
Concerto italiano features a selection of violin concertos by Antonio Lolli, Domenico Dall’Oglio, Michele Stratico and Pietro Nardini - all selected and performed by Carmignola , all (except Lolli) world-premiere recordings. The works of these virtuoso composers were specifically written to impress audiences with their technical feats, using state-of-the-art violin techniques of their time in the most natural way, combined with the playfulness and charm of the galant roccoco style.
