Over recent years, Australians have demonstrated their infatuation with the waltzes and polkas of Austria. Now, following their sell-out tour of Australia in February, the Johann Strauss Ensemble shows just why it’s regarded as one of the most authentic interpreters of the quintessential music of Vienna. Stopping off in a Sydney ABC studio mid-tour, they recorded almost their entire concert program under full studio conditions. And here is the result, with this delightful CD that includes the immortal Tritsch-Tratsch Polka, Roses from the South, and Voices of Spring among so many more Strauss favourites. Amazingly the group is directed from the violin by an Australian, the AFL-playing Russell McGregor, but their sound is pure Vienna!
