This CD revisits previously recorded Sculthorpe works, this time featuring the didgeridoo of William Burton, exceptionally backed by the QSO. On Mangrove and Earth Cry,. the dijeridoo becomes a primal pulse- a cryfor the land and its traditional owners. The title track (originally written for clarinet and piano) is now rearranged especially for Barton and its final Lament leaves us steadfast while sea and sky change and soar.Other favourites- Kakadu and From Ubir - complete a moving tribute to our country. Sculthorpe writes our landscape- its majestic beauty and harshness, its places of sweetness and melancholy of emptiness. He orchestrates sweeps of sound acrossour vastness and strings that make birds fly. The mans a genius. An exceptional cd.
