What is Anna Funder reading?
Earlier this week Anna Funder dropped by Carlton to sign copies of her award-winning, debut novel, All That I Am.
We asked her what she was reading at the moment and her response was surprisingly and impressively varied. She included Leo Tolstoy’s classic War and Peace, Jonathon Franzen’s essay collection Farther Away, Richard Ford’s latest novel Canada and Farewell Glacier, a collection of poetry from Nick Drake who gather together voices from across the Arctic past – explorers, whalers, mapmakers, scientists, financiers, the famous and the forgotten.
After the signing we walked down to Jimmy’s to relax with a glass of wine. It was genuinely a pleasure to meet Anna who chatted about everything from growing up in Melbourne, to her current home in Brooklyn, to ‘atrocious rock-pop’. For those who are interested to know what might be coming next, Anna did mention she’s not focussing on Germany anymore.
All That I Am is out now.
