375 Christopher Hitchens has passed away today at the age of 62.

Known for his often controversial writings on politics, atheism and religion, Hitchens was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer in 2010 and had been undergoing chemotherapy ever since.

Throughout his lifetime, he published numerous books, including the collection of essays Arguably and the memoir Hitch-22. According to Vanity Fair, Hitchens died at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas amongst family and friends.
