The Age Book of the Year Awards shortlist has been announced. The awards are offered in the three categories of poetry, fiction and non-fiction and will be presented at Melbourne Writers' Festival opening night on August 22.

On Saturday, August 23 the winners of each category will be reading from their work at a special FREE event in the BMW Edge hosted by Jason Steger, Literary Editor, The Age.

The winner in each category receives $10,000. The overall winner also receives an extra $10,000.
