Australia's first ever digital-only imprint launched earlier today. Momentum is a Pan Macmillan production that is hoping to capture part of the ever-growing ebook market. All of the initial 22 ebooks are now available to buy through Readings. You can browse them (and sample each title) here.

Among the initial titles are rereleased versions of Mark 'Chopper' Read's books for $4.99 each and Australian fantasy author Louise Cusack's Shadow Through Time trilogy, each for $4.99.

Here are the new, new releases from Momentum that are worth a look:

fourth-passanger

The Fourth Passanger
Mini Nair
$4.99

A debut novel from Indian author Mini Nair, which incidentally was published in hardback last year in the US and UK.

The blurb says:

Set in Mumbai during the Hindu-Muslim conflict of the early 1990s, The Fourth Passanger is the story of four women raised with traditional Indian values, whose partnership give them the temerity to stand up against religious extremism. Having reached their thirties and disillusioned with their lives and husbands, their decision to open an urban food stand is mingled with their memories of a distant past when two of them loved the same man. But, in order to establish their fledgling business, they must contend with individual temperament, extortionists, ruthless competitors, and most importantly, the prevailing religious intolerance.

andypedia

Andypedia
Andy Griffiths
$3.99

An encyclopedia all about Andy Griffiths - Andy the author, Andy the character, Andy's books, trivia about Andy - with illustrations by Terry Denton.

The blurb says:

The Andypedia is a complete guide to every book, every story and every character in the world of Andy Griffiths’ books. It’s also a complete guide to everything you ever wanted to know about Andy himself – including the answers to questions people are always asking him, like 'How old were you when you started writing?' and 'How many books have you actually written?' and 'Where do you get your ideas from?' and 'Did all that stuff really happen to you?' and 'Was Danny Pickett really your best friend?' and 'Were you really in love with Lisa Mackney?' and 'Did your bum really grow arms and legs and run away?'

val

Return of the Ancients: The Valkeryn Chronicles Book 1
Greig Beck
$8.99

And a new sci-fi novel from Sydney author Greig Beck.

The blurb says:

Arnold Singer is just like any other fifteen-year-old boy growing up in the suburbs – average height, average looks. The love of his life thinks he’s a geek … that is if she notices him at all. Pretty normal, and pretty boring, really. But this normal life is about to change forever. On a school science trip to watch the test firing of a new particle accelerator, Arn is caught up in an accident that propels him into an extraordinary new world. In this new land, Arn is the last human alive. It is populated with mysterious and bloodthirsty creatures, some of whom want him dead, while others see him as their only hope for survival.
