The longlist for the 2008 Man Booker Prize for Fiction has been announced. 'The Man Booker Dozen' are:

- Gaynor Arnold's Girl in a Blue Dress
- Sebastian Barry's The Secret Scripture
- John Berger's From A to X
- Michelle de Kretser's The Lost Dog
- Amitav Ghosh's Sea of Poppies
- Linda Grant's The Clothes on Their Backs
- Mohammed Hanif 's A Case of Exploding Mangoes
- Philip Hensher's The Northern Clemency
- Joseph O’Neill's Netherland
- Salman Rushdie's The Enchantress of Florence
- Tom Rob Smith's Child 44
- Steve Toltz's A Fraction of the Whole
The Booker prize aims to reward the best novel of the year written by an author of the Commonwealth or the Republic of Ireland. The winning author also receives £50,000. The 2008 shortlist will be announced on 9 September with the winner announced on 14 October 2008.
