The winners
of the 2009 Carnegie Medal (for an outstanding book for children)
and the Kate Greenaway Medal (for distinguished illustration in a
book for children) have been announced.
The winner of the Carnegie Medal is Bog Child by late author Siobhan Dowd (left). Dowd completed the winning novel Bog Child just three months before succumbing to cancer at the age of 47. Dowd came to writing late in her life, and completed four acclaimed novels in four short years: A Swift, Pure Cry; The London Eye Mystery; Bog Child; and Solace of the Road. Dowd's publisher David Fickling delivered a moving speech in acceptance of the medal on Dowd's behalf. Watch the video here.
