One of my
most-anticipated books of the year arrived in store last week:
Home the new novel by Marilynne Robinson. Her earlier
novel Gilead,
which won the Pulitzer Prize, is a beautiful novel narrated by an
elderly American preacher, writing the story of his family in a
letter to his young son. It is a quietly philosophical journey, set
in the American heartland during the years of the Great Depression.
In Home Robinson returns to the same community, and
explores the life of another man who's journey has taken a very
different path. I can't recommend Gilead highly enough...I
hope Home
can live up to the expectation.
