The shallow and divisive public debate on climate change in Australia has reached a logjam.Taking its lead from Mike Hulme’s book, Why We Disagree About Climate Change (2009), this edition of the Local Global Journal suggests some ways to bring values back into discussions about climate change adaptation. It presents the work of a wide range of scholars exploring topics related to affect, religion, art, politics, community engagement, way-of-life, and our responsibilities for forest conservation in Indonesia.

The edition will be launched by Cam Walker, who has worked for Friends of the Earth in Melbourne since 1989 and has served for six years on the Executive of FOE International. Comments will also be offered by Ellen Sandell, National Director of Australian Youth Climate Coalition.

Professor Damien Kingsbury, Personal Chair at the School of International Studies, Deakin University will be launching Michael Cooke’s book, The Lionel Bopage Story: Rebellion, Repression and the Struggle for Justice in Sri Lanka. Join the author and Lionel Bopage for a celebration of the books release. Michael Cooke is a retired public servant and trade union activist who has a lifelong interest in South Asian history, politics and culture.

Urban Interior is a book located at the threshold between the interior, habitually conceived as the private realm, and the urban, or what is generally recognized to be the public realm. The creative projects in this book aim to overcome the traditional dualism between these domains with projects that focus on the spatial and temporal dimensions of the inhabited, urban environment.
