Globally renowned photographer and image-maker to superstar
bands like Depeche Mode and U2, Anton Corbijn brings us his first
feature film CONTROL-the story of the tortured love triangle
between Joy Division's frontman Ian Curtis, his young wife and his
Belgian lover, and the ascension of this seminal British band in
the late 1970s. Ian Curtis was only 23 when his rise to fame was
tragically cut short. His brief spell in the spotlight was
illuminated by an inimitable stage presence and a singular lyrical
gift but also by agonising personal conflicts. CONTROL is the
insider's story of the man behind the myth.

The Independent has called CONTROL "the coolest British movie of
2007" and it was the undisputed hit at that year's Cannes film
festival. The music of Joy Division has been cited as an influence
by everyone from Nine Inch Nails to Interpol, Franz Ferdinand and
The Killers.

metal shockers as White Line Fever Kurt Russell stars as an engine
revving psychopath who prefers to take out his beautiful victims at

Robert Rodriguez's Planet Terror under the Grindhouse banner, Death
Proof finds a group of ladies out on the town pitted against a
mysterious figured named Stuntman Mike (Russell), whose vintage
Dodge Charger has been partially modified to withstand even the
most extreme auto collision. Though the maniacal driver himself
always comes out relatively unscathed, the same certainly can't be
said for the poor young lass in his passenger seat or anyone
unfortunate enough to be on the road when the urge to kill strikes
for that matter. With a list of potential road kill candidates that
includes Rose McGowan, Jordan Ladd, Rosario Dawson, and Vanessa
Ferlito, Death Proof takes viewers on an adrenaline-infused drive
that's as sexy as it is shocking.

Skins follows a group of teenagers living on the wild side, who
get high, get drunk, get laid and get up for their A levels. This
British series currently screening on SBS features a whole cross-
section of teenagers, ranging across race, sexualities and social
backgrounds, and the story lines are provocative and topical -
anorexia, drug-taking, a guy who cheats on his girlfriend with
another guy, a muslim who has to deal with his family's disapproval
of his best friend's sexual orientation. This is not sanitized,
politically correct viewing; and the nudity and swearing and highly
energetic film-making and acting make for the kind of in-your-face
television which you've come to expect from the land of the
Original Queer as Folk and Shameless. This is a 3 Disc set

Southern lawyer who defends a black man accused of rape in this
film version of the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel. The way in which

a masterpiece. The setting is a dusty Southern town during the
Depression. A white woman accuses a black man of rape. Though he is
obviously innocent, the outcome of his trial is such a foregone
conclusion that no lawyer will step forward to defend him--except
Peck, the town's most distinguished citizen. His compassion defense
costs him many friendships but earns him the respect and admiration

Death Note is director Shusuke Kaneko's stylish adaptation of
the best selling manga. The plot picks up as aimless law student
Light Yagami (Tetsuya Fujiwara) discovers a mysterious notebook in
the middle of the street. Soon thereafter, Light discovers that if
he writes a name in the notebook, that person will instantly die
(generally of a heart attack). Of course it doesn't take long for
Light to realize the extraordinary power he now holds, and before
long he hatches a plan to rid the planet of crime by scribbling the
name of notorious criminals in the pages of the powerful notebook
and make the world a safer place for decent citizens everywhere.
But Light isn't alone in his mission, because his new companion
Ryuk - a flying god of death who only Light can see and who also
happens to be the true owner of the notebook - is always there to
egg him on and get a little laugh from the criminal holocaust. Over
the course of the next few weeks, Light does away with millions of
nefarious baddies and the global crime rate drops by seventy
percent. Still, the police aren't too happy that a regular civilian
seems to be taking the law into his own hands. Perhaps the only
person capable of discovering Light's true identity is L (Kenichi
Matsuyama) - a brilliant teenage detective with a taste for sweets
and remarkable deductive reasoning skills. When the police chief
(Takeshi Kaga of the hit television series Iron Chef) - who also
happens to be Light's father - is assigned the task of unmasking
the elusive killer, things really start to get interesting.

material in such a whimsical and affectionate fashion that no
matter what his characters do, the audience loves them as much as

The Diving Bell And The Butterfly

The seemingly claustrophobic story of a man imprisoned in his
paralyzed body becomes a dazzling and expansive movie about love,
imagination, and the will to live. After a stroke, Jean-Dominique
Bauby (Mathieu Amalric, Kings and Queen) can only move his left
eye--and through that eye he learns to communicate, one letter at a
time. With the help of his speech therapist (Marie-Josee Croze,
Munich) and a stenographer (Anne Consigny, Anna M.), Bauby writes
the stunning memoir The Diving Bell and the Butterfly. But such a
plot summary makes the movie sound like lofty, self-important
medicine--far from it. Director Julian Schnabel (Basquiat, Before
Night Falls), working from an elegant screenplay by Ronald Harwood
(The Pianist) and with an oustanding cast (which also includes
Frantic's Emmanuelle Seigner as Bauby's neglected wife), has
created a movie as engrossing and hypnotic as a thriller, a movie
that wrestles with mortality yet has stubborn streaks of dark humor
and eroticism, that portrays a man who overcomes unimaginable
obstacles but refuses to paint him as a saint. Schnabel was once
dismissed as a pompous and overblown painter, but he's crafted an
intimate visual poem, a humble sonata about life at its most
fragile. --Bret Fetzer

Reprise

The freewheeling passion of youth and the unpredictable perils
of fate are both the subject and the breathtaking form of Joachim
Triers lean and kinetic journey through friendship, love, madness
and creativity REPRISE. Trier viscerally captures the way life
takes off at rocket-speed in the beginning of adulthood and the
what ifs and why nots that both drive and haunt us as the unbridled
hopes of youth come to a screeching halt. The fast-moving story
kicks off just as Phillip (ANDERS DANIELSON LIE) and Erik (ESPEN
KLOUMAN HOINER) stand at the mailbox, two cocky, grinning rebels
full of 20 year old verve and dreams, their whole lives hanging in
the balance at this singular moment. Each is about to ship off his
first novel to publishers, each is hoping to become a wildly
influential cult author, each has visions of a new life of non stop
intensity, brilliance, romance and nightclubbing. Fast-forward six
months. These reveries have crashed, hard, into reality. Phillip,
whose novel garnered instant acclaim and turned him into a mini
celebrity, has had a terrifying breakdown and is just about to be
released from a psychiatric hospital. Erik, who never sold his
novel, is still pecking away, determined to follow in the footsteps
of his undying hero, a reclusive but idolized writing genius, no
matter what it takes. REPRISE explores not just what happens to
Phillip and Erik as they pick up the pieces but what might have
happened to them, what they imagine could happen, what they fear
will possibly happen and what they cant see actually happening.
Nimbly moving both backwards and forwards in time via a dazzling
mix of flashbacks, rapid fire editing, philosophical voiceovers and
comical flights of fancy the film traces how Erik and Phillip
arrived at this precipice where exuberant youth runs into the harsh
light of day . . . and witnesses the emotionally gripping
aftermath. REPRISE marks the feature film debut of Joachim Trier,
who wrote the screenplay with Eskil Vogt. In its native Norway, the
film won Best Picture, Best Director and Best Screenplay at the
national film awards. REPRISEs unusual cast includes Anders
Danielsen Lie, a doctor and musician, as the romantically enigmatic
Philip and advertising copywriter Espen Klouman Hoiner, as the sly
and charismatic Erik. Newcomer Viktoria Winge is Kari, Phillips
girlfriend and muse, with whom he tries, over and over, to recreate
the elusive source of his inspiration. The film is produced by
Karin Julsrud and executive produced by Scott Rudin.

Mongol

Mongol is made by an award winning Russian film maker Sergei
Bodrov (Prisoner of the Mountains). Here Sergei illuminates the
life and legend of Genghis Khan in this stunning historical epic.
Based on leading scholarly accounts and written by Bodrov and Arif
Aliyev, Mongol delves into the dramatic and harrowing early years
of the ruler who was born as Temudgin in 1162. As it follows
Temudgin from his perilous childhood to the battle that sealed his
destiny, the film paints a multidimensional portrait of the future
conqueror, revealing him not as the evil brute of hoary stereotype,
but as an inspiring, fearless and visionary leader. Mongol shows us
the making of an extraordinary man, and the foundation on which so
much of his greatness rested his relationship with his wife, Borte,
his lifelong love and most trusted advisor.

Filmed in the very lands that gave birth to Genghis Khan, Mongol
transports us back to a distant and exotic period in world history;
to a nomad's landscape of endless space, climatic extremes and ever
present danger. In a performance of powerful stillness and
subtlety, celebrated young Japanese actor Asano Tadanobu (Zatoichi,
Last Life in the Universe) captures the inner fire that enabled a
hunted boy to become a legendary conqueror. Asano's achievement is
matched by those of his co-stars, including the radiant newcomer
Khulan Chuluun as Temudgin's courageous, spirited wife Borte, and
the Chinese actor Honglei Sun (The Road Home) as the Mongol
chieftain Jamukha, Temudgin's dearest friend and deadliest enemy.
Masterfully blending action and emotion against some of the most
arresting terrain on earth, Bodrov delivers an exciting and awe
inspiring tale of survival and triumph, and a love story for the
ages
