Silent Running Dvd

Returning to dvd after an absence comes this elegaic cult
classic of SF. Directed by the enigmatic Douglas Trumbull, best
known for his pioneering special effects work on 2001 and Blade
Runner, Silent Running stars Bruce Dern as an eco-astronaut tending
the last surviving flora from a dying Earth with only three drone
robots for company. When orders arrive to nuke the spaceship and
destroy the forests, Dern becomes a warrior of conscience and
conservation. Moving, dramatic, visually poetic and in its
eco-message many years ahead of its time. When first released in
1971 this was dystopian fantasy but in the 21st century dawn it has
become more of a shocking reality.
