PEN Melbourne presents Liz Jones

Library at the Dock, 107 Victoria Harbour Promenade, Docklands

PEN Melbourne is celebrating 40 years of International Women’s Day!

Widely acknowledged as a vibrant leader, mentor and advocate for the arts, Liz Jones is CEO and artistic director of La Mama Theatre, Melbourne’s iconic home for experimentation and idealism in theatre-making since 1967. For more than forty years, Liz’s passionate involvement with La Mama has been almost inseparable from her own flourishing as an artist—and from her fearless championing of women’s free expression in and past the risky spaces of the stage.

Each year, PEN Melbourne marks International Women’s Day with an event inspired by the work of PEN International’s Women Writers Committee. In celebration of the 40th anniversary of International Women’s Day, and in conversation with PEN Melbourne’s Cynthia Troup, Liz will reflect on the vital place of women in the history of La Mama, and on her own witness to the challenges of women ‘standing up to be heard and counted’ for their talents.
